A letter from the USA

Dear World,

We are ashamed. Embarrassed. Terrified.

We are watching as our country commits suicide by reality show star. We are waiting for it to stop, but the relentless purge and destruction of our government from the inside feels like we’re tied to a chair while a boxer uses our heads for target practice.

Every day we wake wondering, what’s next? And it’s usually worse than we imagined.

Who needs a Department of Education? Trade war with Canada? Trade war with Mexico? (China… The rest of the world…) Mass firings of newest and most-recently-promoted government employees? Purge the military? Pardon violent insurrectionists? Halt life-saving funds to foreign nations? Defund science and universities? Data-mine, revise and erase government records? Arrest and deport legal residents for political protests? Undermine the postal service. Annex Greenland? Erase gender and equity solutions? Abandon allies for anal relations with Russia? The freaking Gulf of America?

Anyone who has a brain, conscience, concept of history, or empathy for human suffering is cowering like a battered spouse handcuffed to a radiator.

(Please don’t troll my by taking this next paragraph out of context…)

Yes, there are likely some who are reveling in the dismantling of the bureaucracy. Certainly there are those who are profiting from the wanton pillage. And some who believe that science and medicine are worse than disease. If airplanes fall from the sky because there aren’t enough air traffic controllers, it’s proof that people weren’t meant to fly. Climate change, others hope, will cause the oceans to rise and devour the East and West coasts, where so many atheistic educated people live and work. As for illegals, women, non-white and trans people, clearly they are less than human and deserve whatever they get. There are some who believe that America will not only survive but somehow thrive isolated, alone, white and male and armed.

So… what’s next?

Unfortunately the elected Democrats still don’t understand that we gave the keys to the bus (and the nuclear codes) to the Boss Clown, who’s cramming in cronies for a shoot-em-up joy ride with automatic weapons. The Democrats aren’t planning for the rebuilding, they’re pointing fingers, refighting the election they just lost and saying, “Lookit! Told ya! Not it!”

The rest of us are still hoping – without a lot of hope – for a non-violent non-civilization-ending resolution. We are hoping for the Supreme Court to save us. We are flailing about for a leader with courage. We are hoping for upcoming peaceful elections to replace and rebalance the House of Representatives. We dream about Republicans waking up and using their Constitutional powers to block the neoFührer before his blackshirts burn the Capitol (again) and impose martial law.

We are hoping that those thin “checks and balances” that were the American Dream will reign in the demolition before it’s too late.

So we’re boycotting (a little). And protesting (a little). But we know that the billionaire kleptocrats already have our money and they don’t care if we object.

Fact is, short of armed insurrection – which may be coming – there’s not much we can do. We want America to lead by example, and would prefer to avoid assassination and terror.

A few years ago, Rhode Island actually permitted filmmakers to use our State Capitol Building to film horror-hell movie “The Purge.” It feel like we’re getting there fast.
